Heading into the 2012 NBA draft lottery the New Orleans Hornets were fresh off their worst season in 5 plus seasons after Chris Paul was traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for often injured Shooting Guard Eric Gordon. The Hornets were given the fourth best odds at receiving the number one overall pick at 137. The Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, and historically futile Charlotte Bobcats were all in the way of the Hornets and their first career number one overall pick. But this wasn't just any pick, this was phenom Anthony Davis, a player that most of Charlotte had already designed customized jerseys for in preparation of his first season with the team. If the lottery went as planned the New Orleans Hornets would have drafted Dion Waiters, who had a successful rookie campaign for the Cleveland Cavaliers before being run out of town by LeBron James. Had the Hornets drafted Waiters the Hornets would have a middle of the road, young Shooting Guard who is struggling to find his niche in the league. The reason that this article was written is to let the fans of the Pelicans remember that Anthony Davis could easily be a Cavalier, a Wizard, or a Bobcat (now Hornet ironically) do not take Anthony Davis for granted Pelican Nation. Without Davis, Tyreke Evans never signs, and Jrue Holliday and Eric Gordon have a miniature ER on the bench where they hangout together. Do not take Anthony Davis for granted because we had no business drafting him.
I thought this article was longer while I was writing it.
