Is Kendrick Perkins a blessing in disguise? Or simply a seldom used big?
Last night, New Orleans finalized a deal with center Kendrick Perkins for the veterans minimum and will most likely take the role Jeff Withey had held for the past two seasons.
In most cases this would seem like a very worthless signing, just a rotation filler who won't play much more than garbage time. But maybe he wasn't brought in just for what he brings to the court. Perkins was part of a Celtics team that made two finals appearances and many deep runs into the playoffs, and was also apart of the Cavaliers team that just made the finals. That's a lot of experience he can bring to a otherwise inexperienced Pelicans team that was swept in their first playoff appearance in 4 years. I can see Perkins bringing the same pedigree that Pondexter, Cunningham, and Cole brought midseason for the Pelicans in 2014. As you could see, that locker room presence was invaluable to the team. Maybe Perkins can be a surprise for the team and really give us meaningful minutes, or be the 12th man off the bench. Either way, what he brings off the court is what matters to me. Welcome to the team Perk!
